Last year, St. Louis ranked number 1 for high crime rates in the nation.
I was not shocked when I heard that we were “honored” with this title. I
had seen a lot of crime throughout my 19 years of life and I wanted to
see if there was any correlation with the AIDS Rate. There was no
information to do this for the entire St. Louis area as I had planned so
I focused on the City of St. Louis primarily. Using this three year
study from the health department for the city of St. Louis, I found that
crime correlated with the AIDS rate tremendously.
As for the property crime rate, characterized as crimes such as robbery
and vandalism per 100K, the confidence interval was 99% and it was a
positive correlation coefficient of 0.622925092.
The violent crime rate, characterized by crimes against persons such as
rape and murder, was very similar with a confidence interval of 99% and
a correlation coefficient of 0.645316808. I think that this is this way
mainly because of the fact that St. Louis has the worst crime rates in
the nation.
