An Investigation of AIDS and HIV in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania

VI. Conclusion

The situation of AIDS and HIV in Pittsburgh is not as dire as in other parts of the US, but certain populations still suffer under this disease.  To fight the epidemic, the homosexual and black communities must be carefully targeted and provided with the resources to stay healthy.  By improving partner referral services, establishing effective AIDS programs in the African American church, and ensuring that a positive needle exchange program can continue to operate, Allegheny County will be able to greatly increase the threat that AIDS and HIV poses to the citizens of Pittsburgh.
