Fogo

The Myth of Fogo

(According to me)

Underneath Fogo, and under the islands of Cape Verde, lives a monster that keeps all of his emotions bottled up inside, because there are no other monsters (or psychiatrists) for him to express his grievances to.  So, eventually, something will set him off and all of the rage and emotion that he has been living with will show itself and he will have a huge temper tantrum.  At first, the monster just becomes red and uncomfortable as he puts in a final effort to maintain some control over his raging emotions.  Eventually though, he cracks and he begins to cry tears of streaming lava and blows ash and rocks into the air as he yells about everything that he is angry about.  The monster then throws up both fists in rage and punches repeatedly which forces more and more lava out of the volcano from a bunch of vents.  At the same time, Mother Earth attempts to keep the monsters emotions below the earth, and gradually builds a cone around the areas that the monster is breaking out, as a last attempt to keep the humans safe.  This works for a little while, and the monster calms down for brief periods, but eventually realizes that he is being manipulated by Mother Earth and has one final fit of rage before calming down gradually and eventually going back to leading a life of loneliness and bottled up emotions.  The monster will remain quiet until his emotions reach their breaking point, and he will once again make his rage known to the outside world.

The monster himself (note the obvious anger and negative energy in this picture).¹
