In addition AIDS rates also seem to correlate with the percent of registered sex offenders in each zip code. When comparing these cumulative AIDS rates with the percentage of sex offenders in each zip code, the correlation coefficient received is 0.426, which works for a 95% significance level, but not a 99% (Table 1.1, 1.10; Graphs 1.9, 1.10; Maps 1.1, 1.9, 1.10). However, upon further research into the actual addresses of these sex offenders, one discovers that the zip code of 15219 actually is home to the Allegheny County Jail and Correctional Facilities (City-Data.com). When these prisoners are not included within the count of registered sex offenders in each zip code, the correlation coefficient is raised to 0.458 and further allows for a relationship with the higher confidence interval of 99% (Table 1.1, 1.10; Graphs 1.9, 1.10; Maps 1.1, 1.9, 1.10). This correlation is interesting because it provides a significant association between crime (or rather, a type of crime), and AIDS rates within the Pittsburgh region. Furthermore, this relationship identifies another factor for predicting where new AIDS cases will erupt in the future.
