The last significant correlation was with the % of the population that is children living with their natural parent as head of household (as opposed to adopted or step children). This negatively correlates with an r value of -.743. The graph of natural born children and the map of frequency can be found below. The data can be found in Table 8.

There are several theories as to why this may be a true negative correlation. In communities where high emphasis is put on family, while there will realistically be some straying outside marriage and divorces, there are likely to be fewer divorces, and thus a lower incidence of children who are not living with their natural parents. In this case, the stronger family bonds may cause less straying outside marriage, less promiscuity, and less premarital sex. Therefore, the chance of contracting HIV would be much less. Also, in our society, most parents are heterosexual because of limitations placed on gay couples and their ability to have children of their own. Therefore, there is also likely to be a lesser incidence of homosexuals and, as the main method of transmission in Santa Clara County of HIV is through MSM, a negative correlation between naturally born children and AIDS rate.
