Eruptive History of Semeru

Semeru is currently in an eruptive state and has remained in its eruptive state since 1964.  The activity at Semeru consists of frequent mildly explosive eruptions.  These eruptions take place multiple times each day and send ash colums up to a kilometer into the air on a regular basis.  Besides the eruptions, there is also frequent seismic activity generated by the volcano.  The volcano regularly generates lahars and less often pyroclastic flows, both of which have been responsible for deaths in the last 4 years.  Below is the Global Volcanism Projects summary of Semeru's activity over the last two centuries.1
