I thought that a correlation would exist between both the institutionalized population and the non-institutionalized population. I felt as though a correlation would exist because many people in jail have had same sex relationships and have probably done drugs in the past. According the census bureau, the institutionalized population includes people under formally authorized, supervised care or custody in institutions at the time of enumeration; such as correctional institutions, nursing homes, and juvenile institutions[1].

The non- institutionalized population includes all people who live in group quarters other than institutions, such as college dormitories, military quarters, and group homes[2]. I feel like if the data had just focused on people incarnated that a correlation would exist. It may not be a strong correlation but I think it would be important information. The “X and Y” plots for both of these topics show a lack of a correlation. The correlation coefficient for the institutionalized population is negative 0.08. The correlation coefficient for non- institutionalized population is 0.26. These correlation coefficients are not even close to my confidence level
