Local
celebrities, such as rap-star Nelly, are also supporting the fight
against the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Through his 4Sho4Kids organization,
Nelly focuses primarily on underprivileged children, but also diseases
that rob children of their childhood, such as HIV/AIDS. On a 2001
rendition of a Marvin Gaye classic, “What’s Going On.” This song
features various big named artists, and Nelly verse went as follows.
Nelly:
What's going on 'cross seas
Every minute a child dies by this disease
In record numbers indeed
Got momma's crying out please
My baby hold on
My child ain't done nothing wrong
Still I want to holler
Ask them why they don't bother
Oh no, oh no
Make me turn to my father
And ask him why they all got a trapped soul

This song had a lot
meaning and a lot to do with the AIDS epidemic, particularly in other
areas. Nelly had such as strong influence on me because he was someone
that I looked up to, so I valued what he said and took it into strong
consideration. If more artists can do this, then maybe the artists can
influence the people to take more initiative against AIDS. I can still
find myself rapping this song today, when I think about AIDS.
