INTRO: AIDS CORRELATION IN CHICAGO
|
CONCLUSION |
Ultimately, the AIDS epidemic seems to be most heavily located in the same south side neighborhoods populated by poor, black inhabitants, where students are receiving lower qualities of education than those in both northern wealthy communities and northern heterosexual communities. Unlike the black communities, the gay population has set a national example on how to address the problem since the beginning of this epidemic in the 1980s, beginning with grass roots AIDS organizers that raise awareness and demand help from larger agencies. While conditions may be improving for these northern, gay wards, the extreme levels of poverty and unemployment and a lack of education are undermining AIDS preventive measures and ultimately perpetuating the growth of this epidemic in black communities.
