Despite the lack of information I had on AIDS impact on my community, my guesses for the numbers of people infected with AIDS in my town and my county were too high. The reason for this is relatively simple. As a small town in Fairfield County, Weston is known for keeping “unseemly” secrets quiet. There were many instances of parents covering up divorces and even abortions. It seemed plausible to me, therefore, that AIDS could have been another of Weston’s dirty little secrets. As a result of this thinking, I guessed nearly 50 cases too high in Weston and a little over 1000 too high for all of Fairfield County.
