Statistical Clarification
For the purposes of this assignment, correlations were measured using Pearson’s r and with
two-tailed probabilities. Demographic numbers were obtained from the CENSUS Bureau and correlated
with both HIV and AIDS rates. Significance was obtained at the 95%, 99%, and 99.9% confidence levels.
The following table delineates the number of correlations at each confidence level that satisfied the r value.
There were 33 attempted correlations and the number of correlations that were significant at each
confidence level are provided in the following table.
NOTE: Within the paper when two correlations are written side by side they
will all be of the form (HIV correlation, AIDS correlation).
