Statistical Clarification

For the purposes of this assignment, correlations were measured using Pearson’s r and with

two-tailed probabilities. Demographic numbers were obtained from the CENSUS Bureau and correlated

with both HIV and AIDS rates. Significance was obtained at the 95%, 99%, and 99.9% confidence levels.

The following table delineates the number of correlations at each confidence level that satisfied the r value.

There were 33 attempted correlations and the number of correlations that were significant at each

confidence level are provided in the following table.

NOTE: Within the paper when two correlations are written side by side they

will all be of the form (HIV correlation, AIDS correlation).
