In Santa Clara County, there are already several testing and prevention strategies in place. The main anonymous HIV testing center is The Crane Center (The Crane Center), located in downtown San Jose. Other places to get tested include the Foothill Family Medical Clinic, five branches of the Gardner Family Health Network, the Indian Health Center, three branches of the Mayview Community Health Centers, and six branches of Planned Parenthood (STD Testing Sites). All these sites are confidential-testing sites, and most require payment or insurance coverage. There is also a pilot syringe program, signed into law by Governor Schwarzenegger in 2004, which allows licensed pharmacists who participate in the Disease Prevention Demonstration Project (DPDP) to sell up to ten hypodermic needles at a time without a prescription to someone 18 years of age or older (Syringe Pilot Project).
