FIRST IMPRESSIONS

From the Daily News the 28 articles that I acquired four of them spoke of the economic influence there are on the people that contract AIDS, nine of them speak of race most of which spoke of the Latino community One article I read from this 40% that spoke about AIDS greatly impacted me. The name of this article was in Spanish, but literally translated means: The Mexican consulter in New York is also worrying over the health of his Hispanic community (insert link to article). This article stood out to me because for one, the article in itself was written in Spanish, which meant that the information in the article was easily accessible to the Spanish Community, and secondly one statement from the speaker in the beginning of the article Jazmin Hernandez, made me realize exactly how uninformed people can be, whether it be because of their language barrier or because of their socioeconomic status. What Jazmin stated was that she had lived in New York for 17 years yet she had just found out that a central Hospital center near her house existed that could test her for HIV, and all for a cheap cost. 

What I found interesting about this data was that most of it had to do with solutions, treatments, and awareness and generally aimed for the positive while it kept the other more negatively inclined subjects to a minimum. Although I didn’t exactly like how the New York Times strangely focused more on the positive, I did find an article that directly talked about Westchester County and the rising problem on AIDS, “Westchester had the second-highest number of people living with AIDS of any county in the state…” This last article reflected on what I had previously believed Westchester County’s situation with AIDS was.
