FIRST IMPRESSIONS

The last question that was asked of us was to guess what cities I would expect to have the highest number of AIDS cases and which I think would be the lowest. The two cities I guessed were Mount Vernon as the highest city with cumulative AIDS cases, and Larchmont as the lowest. I was correct in that Mount Vernon was in fact the city with the highest cumulative AIDS cases, but the city with the lowest AIDS cases turned out to be Chester. My reasoning on why I accurately guessed Mount Vernon as the city with the most AIDS cases was probably because Mount Vernon is known to be on a low level in all social levels. If one were to get a house in Mount Vernon it would be much cheaper and would probably not look as nice compared to other places in Westchester such as Rye or Westchester. The education in Mount Vernon compared to Westchester also differs greatly, or at least I have heard from relatives and my own parents. Economically, Mount Vernon simply appears as a place that isn’t very high up there in the economic ladder. The environment in Mount Vernon is not the type where my parents would even consider allowing me walk down the street after dark, and curiously enough, most people in Mount Vernon are Black/African America.

The third question asked was what percentage we believed Hispanics had AIDS in the cumulative AIDS cases. My guess was 63% while the actual percentage of cumulative AIDS cases was 20%. I believe I made this guess because in the neighborhood I live in, there are many immigrant Hispanics who make specific parts their home. I also connected the idea that because most Hispanics in New Rochelle are relatively new immigrants who do not know the language and are uninformed of what different medical services there are, and where to receive help if they need any.
