The laboratory notebook...
your friend, your confidant, your necessity
because students without a notebook will not be allowed to proceed with the laboratory work.

Use the 9 x 11 inch duplicating laboratory notebook available at the Colgate Bookstore. This notebook is to be used for Chem 263/264 lab ONLY.

• the notebook should contain only material related to the chemistry laboratory; it must not contain notes or data from other laboratory courses.
• all entries must be recorded directly into the lab notebook in non-erasable, waterproof, blue or black ink.
• entries should be made directly in the notebook, not transferred from other paper.
• "original" white pages must never be removed from the notebook, whether the page contains entries or not.
• mis-written entries must be crossed out with a single line or large "X" with the revised entry written next to, not on top of, the old entry. One should be able to read the original entry. "White-out" is not to be used.

Lab "style" points will be deducted for failure to follow these important note-taking guidelines. The laboratory notebook may be collected sometime during the course so the instructor can check the format, so keep the notebook up-to-date.
