Oviraptor in bird-like brooding posture; Norell and Dingus, p. 32

This find led to an intensification of interest in Gobi dinosaur eggs, particularly because the embryo shed new light on reproduction in predatory dinosaurs. Preservation in a brooding-like posture over egg clutches led scientists to conclude that: (1) the Oviraptor parents died while protecting their eggs from desert sandstorms and (2) these dinosaurs exhibited a specialized form of parental behavior similar to but pre-dating those of many modern birds, the evolutionary descendants of dinosaurs.
