Oviraptor in bird-like brooding posture; Norell and Dingus, p. 32
|
This find led to an intensification of interest in Gobi dinosaur eggs, particularly
because the embryo shed new light on reproduction in predatory dinosaurs.
Preservation in a brooding-like posture over egg clutches led scientists to conclude
that: (1) the Oviraptor parents died while protecting their eggs from desert
sandstorms and (2) these dinosaurs exhibited a specialized form of parental behavior
similar to but pre-dating those of many modern birds, the evolutionary descendants of
dinosaurs.
