Debris flows & Lahars (**see below) are:

  • characterized by coarse-grained sediment (along with some finer sediments)

  • slow to rapid

  • often triggered by high precipitation or snowmelt.

  • often flow within valleys

** Lahars are debris flows that are associated with volcanoes
