Global warming poses a serious threat to salt marshes. As the carbon dioxide levels increase in the atmosphere and the Earth heats up, glaciers melt and cause the sea level to rise. Since salt marshes are located near coastlines, they will be negatively affected by rising sea levels. It is probable that any significant increase in sea level will inundate salt marshes and disrupt their individual and precise salinities. With too much salt, the salt marsh ecosystems will change so drastically that they will no longer to be able to support the life they once could.
