Nitric oxide and nitric dioxide are also components of acid rain. Its sources are mainly from
power stations and exhaust fumes. Therefore, transportation plays a large role in the increase
of acid rain. As with sulphur dioxide, the accumulation of nitric acid in the atmosphere
(23.2 million tons!) is due heavily to unnatural causes, which is the root of the problem.
