Black flies do best where acid rain is worst. In the springtime, black flies can infest areas
of the Northeast. Their bites are bloody and painful and often leave large welts on the skin.
While other species decline, black flies remain unaffected, resulting in reduced competition
for habitat and predation. Therefore, acid rain causes black fly populations to soar.
