AIDS in Indiana County

Project Two: Correlations

Place of Work Correlations

Another thought that occurred to me was that AIDS incidence might be related to whether someone worked in or out of the county or state; that is, perhaps many of the AIDS cases factored into the AIDS rate were people who contracted AIDS in a different county or state, but reside in the county where their data was collected.  I thought that there might be a positive correlation for working out of the county and out of state, and a negative correlation for working in the county of residence.  The results, however, were entirely opposite of what I expected; there was no meaningful correlation to working out-of-state, and the significant correlation for working in the county of residence was actually positive (Table 9).[15]  Likewise, the strong correlation to working outside the county was negative.  Again, these both decreased in significance when outlying Allegheny County was dropped from consideration.
