The Need for Increased Capacity-Building Activities

Capacity Building:

"Activities which strengthen the knowledge, abilities, skills and behaviour of individuals and improve institutional structures and processes such that the organization can efficiently meet its mission and goals in a sustainable way" (World Customs Organization).

Without technical expertise and properly educated providers, Maine cannot hope to further stem the spread of the HIV/AIDS epidemic.

1) Train HIV/AIDS providers and volunteers so that they are able to offer clients the best possible care.

2) Provide technical assistance needed to implement prevention efforts, as well as the latest in testing and treatment innovations.

3) Maintain an effective statewide monitoring system to keep HIV/AIDS data up-to-date.
