Orange County glance is evolving; in my 8 years of living there my neighborhood and those around me have made drastic changes. It has gone from retired seniors only to having newly budding families. The racial dynamic was immediately shifted from being homogeneously white to having a mix with the arrival of my family, as we are African American. Now on either side of my house there are interracial families.

The African American presence is slowly becoming one of significance in the suburbs of Orange County while they have always been tightly condensed in certain areas.  Increasing amounts of African Americans is particularly true for some areas while others have a light sprinkling. What ever the density it is clear that there is a problem of significance that is occurring to the African-American community. When the AIDS rate for Orange County and the percent of African Americans are correlated an amount of significance is found; 0.462. My overall value for significance is 0.349. The Black community is being hit hard. I started my search for reasons in the very obvious by searching Google. COM to find gay night life and clubs within the areas I know to have a majority of black people. My search was not successful.

Case of the Down Low

The Black community is plagued by a very peculiar problem called the “down low”. It is a term used to describe black men who have sex with men as well as women, but still classify themselves as straight. The “Down Low” phenomenon is that it unknowingly exposes a group of women to the risk of contracting HIV. The relationships that the men have with the women are thought to be monogamous (where condom use is not a prerequisite for sexual encounters and lack of use is proof of fidelity), and it is the idea of monogamy that puts them at risk. Cases of the Down Low coupled with other instances of cheating leaves many black women vulnerable.
