POTENTIAL LIMITATIONS

The data collected for some of these correlations is certainly not perfect. For example, when collecting data for percentages of households that could not speak English, self-reporting was used and families were asked to assess their own abilities to speak the language by saying responding “very well”, “well”, “not well”, or “not at all”. This clearly presents the problem if people did not receive the survey/ return the survey or they simply did not understand the question. It is important to note that these numbers are not static, but rather, they are dynamic and constantly changing as new treatments and programs are developed in the respective areas. The numbers reported and problem areas seen today may change completely within a day, week, month, or year. Nonetheless, it is important to assess which groups have high rates of AIDS victims in order to develop a plan that will control the epidemic effectively.
